Eddie Kohler is a computer scientist who focuses on networks and operating systems. He is currently a professor of computer science at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Before joining Harvard, he was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Kohler helped start Mazu Networks in 2000 and worked as its Chief Scientist until the company was bought by another organization in 2009. In 2006, he was listed among the Top 35 Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review magazine. In 2014, he received the SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award, which honors researchers who make creative, innovative, and potentially high-risk contributions that reflect the visionary spirit of Mark Weiser. He is also the creator of the HotCRP conference management software.
In 2005, Kohler (along with David Mazières) wrote a paper titled "Get me off Your Fucking Mailing List" and submitted it sarcastically to a conference from which they did not want to receive further communications. Years later, the paper was accepted for publication by another scientist who submitted it to a peer-reviewed technical journal, even though the main content of the paper was nonsensical.
