Corey Sutherland Lewis, also known as Rey, Reyyy, or The Rey, is an American comic book creator. He is best known for creating Sharknife, which is published by Oni Press. Other works include PENG, also published by Oni Press, and back-up comic strips for the Darkstalkers and Street Fighter comics, which are published by UDON. Rey briefly worked as both the artist and writer for the Rival Schools comic book. He contributed a short story to the comic book Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Lost Stories, published by Dark Horse Comics. He also created a series of self-published small magazines, which were later collected and published by Image Comics as the anthology Sun Bakery. Recently, Rey started Coastalvania, where he sells books and other items he created.
Lewis’ work is known for combining influences from global youth culture, such as martial arts, video games, American comic books and cartoons, Japanese anime and manga, graffiti, hip-hop, and indie rock. His style is often described as stylized and includes the use of sound effects. Most of his work has been in the action genre. He has mentioned that his main influences in comics are Paul Pope and Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the comic series Naruto. Lewis and Bryan Lee O’Malley, another comic artist, are friends, and their work has been compared by others.
