Joakim Nordström was born on February 25, 1992. He is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who plays as a center and currently plays for HC Davos in the National League (NL). He won the World Championships in 2017 while playing for Sweden and the Stanley Cup in 2015 with the Chicago Blackhawks.

He was chosen by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round, 90th overall, during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He is the brother of Dennis Nordström.

Playing career

Nordström made his SHL debut on September 23, 2010, in a game against Södertälje SK. On May 29, 2012, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blackhawks but stayed with AIK for the 2012–13 season. Nordström made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on October 1, 2013. He scored his first NHL goal on October 11, 2013, against Kevin Poulin of the New York Islanders. On October 21, 2013, Nordström was sent to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. He played with the IceHogs before being called back to the Blackhawks on April 2, 2014.

During the 2014–15 season, Nordström was the captain of the IceHogs. He also played 38 games with the Blackhawks, including three playoff games, and was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2015.

On March 13, 2015, Nordström was suspended for two games for boarding against Arizona Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson in a game the previous night.

On September 11, 2015, Nordström was traded by the Blackhawks to the Carolina Hurricanes with Kris Versteeg as part of a trade to reduce salary costs.

After three seasons with the Hurricanes, Nordström left as a free agent and signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Boston Bruins on July 1, 2018. His first goal with the Bruins came on October 12, 2018, as the third goal in a 4–1 home ice victory against the Edmonton Oilers.

At the end of his contract with the Bruins, Nordström signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Calgary Flames, his fourth NHL team, on October 19, 2020.

After eight seasons in the NHL, Nordström left North America as a free agent and signed a one-year contract with CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) on June 4, 2021. In the 2021–22 season, Nordström played 27 regular season games in a checking-line role, scoring three goals and recording 14 points. He made two playoff appearances before ending his contract with CSKA on March 4, 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As a free agent, Nordström moved to the Swiss National League and signed a two-year contract with HC Davos on June 2, 2022.
